Face Covering Update November 10, 2020 Dear Rivercrest Community, On October 28, 2020, Red River County went under a face covering mandate for 14 days because there were more than 30 active cases in the county. I received word from Red River County Judge, L.D. Williamson, that the 14-day mask mandate will end at the end of the day on Tuesday, November 10th because the number of active cases is below 30 in Red River County. Although the requirement to wear a mask is being lifted, I want to encourage all of our Rivercrest students and staff to continue to wear a mask while inside the building and when it is not feasible to maintain six feet of social distancing. Because our students and staff have been wearing masks, we have not had to send any student home for quarantine due to close contact with persons who tested positive. Please keep in mind that if the number of active cases in Red River County go above 30 at any time in the future, we will be expected to go back to a face covering mandate. Please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns. Sincerely, Stanley Jessee Superintendent Rivercrest ISD

October 27, 2020 Dear Rivercrest Community, Red River County has been exempt from the face covering mandate issued by Governor Abbott in Executive Order GA-29 because we had less than 20 active cases in the county. Since that executive order came out, the number to be exempt was increased to 30 active cases. I have been notified by Red River County Judge, L.D. Williamson, that at this time Red River County has 30 active cases and Red River County is no longer exempt. Starting on Wednesday, October 28, 2020, face covering will be required for all students in grades 4 – 12, staff, and visitors at Rivercrest ISD, while inside the building and when outdoors in public space, wherever it is not feasible to maintain six feet of social distancing from another person not in the same household. This requirement will remain if affect until further notice. Please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns. Sincerely, Stanley Jessee Superintendent Rivercrest ISD

Message to the Rivercrest Community The Football District Executive Committee, made up of schools in our football district, have amended the district schedule to allow for make-up games after one of our district schools had to miss games due to COVID-19 quarantine. The last two weeks of our football season have been adjusted to play games every 6 days instead of every 7 days. This will allow time for any teams that were quarantined to make up missed games before the deadline. This change will only affect our game against Honey Grove. This is the schedule for the remainder of the regular season. Friday October 16th @ Alba-Golden; Thursday October 22nd Bye week for Rivercrest; Wednesday October 28th Honey Grove (here)

The Football District Executive Committee met this week and voted to change the district start date. The district schedule start date has been moved up one week in order to allow for make-up games if a team were unable to play a district game due to COVID. The schedule could be amended again during the last 2 weeks of the season to allow more make up time. To move the date up one week, we have had to cancel our game with Chisum. The Chisum game was our Homecoming game. Homecoming will now be the week of September 25 vs. Wolfe City. This week’s game against Harleton is unchanged. Sept. 18. @ Como Pickton Sept. 25. Homecoming vs. Wolfe City Oct. 2 @Celeste Oct. 9 Cooper here Oct. 16 @Alba Golden Oct. 23 Bye Oct 30 Honey Grove here

The recent events that have transpired locally and across the world have resulted in a sincere reflection of the symbols we use at Rivercrest ISD and what they represent to our community and neighboring communities. Rivercrest is a place where our communities come together to learn, to compete, to fellowship, and to celebrate, and it should be a place where every person feels welcome and included. If there are symbols that possibly keep anyone from feeling that they are not included at our school, we should examine changing them. Years ago, Rivercrest stopped using the Confederate flag, and colors, to cut symbolic ties to that era. Presently, Rivercrest is in the process of changing its fight song and will paint over the image of the confederate soldier in the high school gym. Our goal is to separate ourselves from any confederate symbolism that could be considered offensive to anyone who comes to our school, and to create an atmosphere of acceptance, respect and love for everyone.
