Rivercrest ISD announced its policy today that this school year, healthy meals will be offered every school day to all students at no cost. Typically, a student’s household must meet income eligibility requirements to qualify for free or reduced-price meals. However, the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) issued guidance that allows schools to offer meals to all students at no cost for the 2021-2022 school year. Each school/site or central office has a copy of the policy, which may be reviewed upon request. While no application or eligibility determination process is required for your student to receive free meals this school year, the income eligibility requirement will likely resume in the 2022-2023 school year. A Household Income Data Collection sheet will be sent home with your child. It is very important that families complete this socioeconomic form in order for schools to receive Title I and State Compensatory Education funding. We want to continue to provide these necessary learning supports, but without your assistance we may not be able to. In accordance with Federal civil rights law and U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) civil rights regulations and policies, the USDA, its Agencies, offices, and employees, and institutions participating in or administering USDA programs are prohibited from discriminating based on race, color, national origin, sex, disability, age, or reprisal or retaliation for prior civil rights activity in any program or activity conducted or funded by USDA. Persons with disabilities who require alternative means of communication for program information (e.g. Braille, large print, audiotape, American Sign Language, etc.), should contact the Agency (State or local) where they applied for benefits. Individuals who are deaf, hard of hearing or have speech disabilities may contact USDA through the Federal Relay Service at (800) 877-8339. Additionally, program information may be made available in languages other than English. To file a program complaint of discrimination, complete the USDA Program Discrimination Complaint Form, (AD-3027) found online at: https://www.usda.gov/oascr/how-to-file-a-program-discrimination-complaint, and at any USDA office, or write a letter addressed to USDA and provide in the letter all of the information requested in the form. To request a copy of the complaint form, call (866) 632-9992. Submit your completed form or letter to USDA by: (1) mail: U.S. Department of Agriculture, Office of the Assistant Secretary for Civil Rights, 1400 Independence Avenue, SW, Washington, D.C. 20250-9410; (2) fax: (202) 690-7442; or (3) email: email@example.com. This institution is an equal opportunity provider.

Help us welcome Elliott Ayo to the Rivercrest family! Mr. Ayo will be our new Band Director beginning in the new school year. He comes to us from Sulphur Springs ISD where he currently serves as Assistant Band Director. During his time at Sulphur Springs ISD, both the middle school and high school band programs have experienced immense growth and pronounced success. Mr. Ayo attributes program growth and success to the core belief that a positive student experience is of utmost importance. Prior to Sulphur Springs, Mr. Ayo taught at Winnsboro ISD as the Director of the middle school band. Elliott is married to Jana and they currently reside in Winnsboro. They are looking forward to establishing themselves and becoming longtime residents of our community.
Please help us welcome our new Head Football Coach, Ty Huie. Coach Huie comes to us from Bartlesville Public School in Oklahoma where he teaches Math and coaches football and baseball. Coach Huie has been in Bartlesville for three years and is excited to come back to Texas. Prior to Bartlesville, Coach Huie was a teacher/coach in his hometown of Cooper, Texas. Ty is married to Samantha Huie and they have one child, Keller. Coach Huie is excited about being a part of our community and building lifelong friendships. He is not only dedicated to the athletic program, but also dedicated to the community he serves. Coach Huie stated that he plans to use his role as Head Football Coach to instill lifelong traits for the student athletes in the program.
Justin Milton, who is in his 8th year here at Rivercrest, has been promoted to Athletic Director for our district. Coach Milton has coached a variety of sports over his career on both the girls and boys side and has spent the last 6 years serving as the Girls Athletic Coordinator/Head Girls Basketball Coach. Justin’s wife Mallory is also employed at Rivercrest and works at the elementary campus as a Math RTI teacher. Their daughters are very active in our school and love bleeding REBEL BLUE. “When I was hired at Rivercrest in the summer of 2012, I was the lowest member on the coaching staff and taught JH Math. I learned quickly that if you work hard every day, hold the kids accountable, and love what you do, everything else tends to work out. When a community supports the school like ours does, you have the opportunities for success in both athletics and academics. Having the opportunity to be at a district like Rivercrest has been a blessing and something I am grateful to be a part of.”
Governor Abbott’s Executive Order GA 34 gave Texas Public School Boards the authority to make the final decision on masks for their school district. Rivercrest ISD Board of Trustees unanimously agreed to make the wearing of masks optional for both students and staff in school and on school buses. Rivercrest will continue to take steps to reduce the risk to students, staff, and their families by continuing daily disinfecting protocols, socially distancing when possible, and quarantining students and staff if they have a high risk exposure. We will continue to monitor cases in our area and, if needed, can mandate masks again in the future.
Today, Texas Governor Greg Abbott announced that he is will be lifting the mask mandate in Texas effective next Wednesday, March 10th. To continue to comply with the current executive order, Rivercrest ISD will continue to make masks mandatory inside the school buildings, on all buses, and when social distancing is not possible, through Friday, March 5, 2021.

Rivercrest ISD Parents and Community, In anticipation of the extreme weather conditions that are forecast for this weekend and next week, Rivercrest ISD is cancelling classes for Tuesday, February 16th and Wednesday, February 17th. I know the forecast for the rest of the week doesn’t look very promising, but we will make those decisions as we get closer to that time and have more current information. As a reminder, all students are out of school Monday due to a scheduled staff development day. These days that are taken off next week are not “remote learning” days, they are “snow days”😊. It isn’t very often that we get snow in our area so I hope our kids (and parents) are able to enjoy time playing and having fun! Keep in mind though, the temperatures and conditions this weekend and next week will no doubt be uncomfortable, and can also be dangerous, so please take care of yourselves and be careful. Stay warm and be safe, Stanley Jessee

Classes will begin at 10:00 am on all Rivercrest campuses. Weather conditions are concerning throughout the weekend and as we prepare to come back to school next week. Monday, February 15th is a staff development day so the students will not be in school that day. Due to the expected extreme temperatures and chance of precipitation, Rivercrest is going to go ahead and call a two hour delayed start on Tuesday, February 16th. This will give us time to evaluate weather conditions

“Caught Being Kind” at Rivercrest Elementary We're celebrating Random Acts of Kindness Week February 8th-12th. Our faculty will be watching closely to "catch" students demonstrating kindness. If your student is "caught" then their name will be placed on the KINDNESS BANNER and they might win a door prize! If you'd like to reinforce KINDNESS at home, here are some things to think about. "Catch your child being good." Find something that you like and praise them for it! "You made your bed without being asked, that's terrific!" or "I was watching you play with your sister and you were very patient." These statements will do more to encourage good behavior over the long run than repeated lectures. Make a point of finding something to praise every day and be generous with rewards. Your love, hugs and compliments can work wonders and are often reward enough. Soon you will find you are "growing" more of the behavior you would like to see! Have fun spreading kindness and please let me know if I can assist you in any way. Stacy Irwin, RES Counselor

Rivercrest ISD will have a two hour delayed start tomorrow, January 11th, due to concerning weather conditions. Buses will run two hours later than normal and classes will begin at 10:00. Notifications will be sent in the morning if there are any changes to this start time. Also, because Red River County has more than 30 active COVID cases, Rivercrest is under a mask mandate. All staff and students must wear a mask at school when they are not able to socially distance. Thank you, Stanley Jessee

Face Covering Update November 10, 2020 Dear Rivercrest Community, On October 28, 2020, Red River County went under a face covering mandate for 14 days because there were more than 30 active cases in the county. I received word from Red River County Judge, L.D. Williamson, that the 14-day mask mandate will end at the end of the day on Tuesday, November 10th because the number of active cases is below 30 in Red River County. Although the requirement to wear a mask is being lifted, I want to encourage all of our Rivercrest students and staff to continue to wear a mask while inside the building and when it is not feasible to maintain six feet of social distancing. Because our students and staff have been wearing masks, we have not had to send any student home for quarantine due to close contact with persons who tested positive. Please keep in mind that if the number of active cases in Red River County go above 30 at any time in the future, we will be expected to go back to a face covering mandate. Please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns. Sincerely, Stanley Jessee Superintendent Rivercrest ISD
Parent Portal has been updated, and the issue that was causing multiple alerts to be sent to parents has been fixed. If you have experienced problems with Parent Portal alerts, please check your settings in Parent Portal. Instructions are in the attached document: https://5il.co/mm04
October 27, 2020 Dear Rivercrest Community, Red River County has been exempt from the face covering mandate issued by Governor Abbott in Executive Order GA-29 because we had less than 20 active cases in the county. Since that executive order came out, the number to be exempt was increased to 30 active cases. I have been notified by Red River County Judge, L.D. Williamson, that at this time Red River County has 30 active cases and Red River County is no longer exempt. Starting on Wednesday, October 28, 2020, face covering will be required for all students in grades 4 – 12, staff, and visitors at Rivercrest ISD, while inside the building and when outdoors in public space, wherever it is not feasible to maintain six feet of social distancing from another person not in the same household. This requirement will remain if affect until further notice. Please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns. Sincerely, Stanley Jessee Superintendent Rivercrest ISD

The recent events that have transpired locally and across the world have resulted in a sincere reflection of the symbols we use at Rivercrest ISD and what they represent to our community and neighboring communities. Rivercrest is a place where our communities come together to learn, to compete, to fellowship, and to celebrate, and it should be a place where every person feels welcome and included. If there are symbols that possibly keep anyone from feeling that they are not included at our school, we should examine changing them. Years ago, Rivercrest stopped using the Confederate flag, and colors, to cut symbolic ties to that era. Presently, Rivercrest is in the process of changing its fight song and will paint over the image of the confederate soldier in the high school gym. Our goal is to separate ourselves from any confederate symbolism that could be considered offensive to anyone who comes to our school, and to create an atmosphere of acceptance, respect and love for everyone. Stanley Jessee and the Rivercrest ISD School Board of Trustees
