Beware of businesses that "for a small fee" offer to search for scholarships for you.  There are more than enough free web sites that this should not be necessary or advisable.

TEXAS A&M  :   Freshman scholarships deadline is December 1, 2011 ; application deadline is January 15th, 2012.  You do not have to be admitted to the college in order to apply for the scholarships.  You can apply for both at www.applytexas.org .  Essays are required---don't delay!  Some of the scholarships available are Engineering Scholarships, Honors Program and Academic Scholarship, Agriculture scholarships, Dependent Children of Texas A&M, Opportunity Awards, etc. More information at https://scholarships.tamu.edu/tamu_scholarships/freshman.aspx

Lennox Scholarship application available through Mrs. Foster.  Due date:  Usually in February. Scholarship is good for $3000 per year, renewable for 4 years.  Emphasis is on class rank, ACT/SAT scores,  extracurricular activities, and willingness to return to Red River County.  Give Mrs. Foster your e-mail address, and she will send you the .pdf format to complete on the computer.

 New!  Carter BloodCare 2011-12 Scholarship:  Will be available from Mrs. Foster for students who have maintained a 2.5 or better GPA and who have donated blood during one of the blood drives.  See application for further requirements.  

USDA National Scholars Program :  Winners are provided full tuition, employment, employee benefits, fees, books, use of a laptop and printer and software, and room and board for 4 years.  Students must attend one of 18 Historically Black Land-Grant Institutions which includes Prairie View A&M University in Texas.  Recipients must major in a field of study related to agriculture, food, natural resource sciences or related discipline.  Go to www.ascr.usda.gov/outreach.html for application and more information.  

Best Buy @ 15 Scholarship:  1000 scholarships of $1500 each will be awarded to students in grades 09-12.    Students should be involved in volunteer community service or work experience.  Get application at www.bestbuy.com/scholarships  or www.at15.com

Access to Education Scholarship:  $1500 scholarship to students with financial need and/or ethnic minority or physically disabled.  Applications available at www.usafunds.org/scholarship

Northeast Texas Community College Presidential Scholarship.  Requirements:  25 or higher on ACT or 1140 SAT or graduate in top 10% of class.  Scholarship is good for a full ride at NTCC including housing.  Application due March 1st, 2011.  See Mrs. Foster if you have questions.  

TrojanTalco Ex-Student Association Scholarship:  Due March 2012, For students who either attended Talco school or had close family who attended Talco schools.  Applications available with Mrs. Foster.  

Dallas Scottish Rite Library and Museum Scholarship:   Application may be downloaded at http://www.dallasscottishrite.org/default.asp?contentID=28  .  Application requires 2 personal references and 2 academic reference letters.  ACT or SAT scores required.

Texas Telephone Association Foundation (TTAF)   Special consideration given to students pursuing a degree in fields of interest to telecommunications such as math, business, education, technology, engineering, and computer science.  Students with financial need will be given special consideration, also.    Application can be accessed at http://www.tta.org/tta_foundation_information.html  NOTE:  COUNSELOR CAN ONLY SEND 2 APPLICATIONS PER SCHOOL.  GET YOURS TURNED IN EARLY!  

ACET: Must have been enrolled in bilingual, ESL, homeless or compensatory ed. program.    See Mrs. Foster for application.

Paris Junior College Presidential Scholarship:  available later online from at www.parisjc.edu for students who rank in top 1/4 of class and have an ACT of 25 or more or SAT of 1150 or higher.  Good for up to 2 years. 

              Paris Junior College Erbie and Allie Bell Sales:  22 ACT required; good for up to 2 years.  

Peoples Telephone:  http://www.peoplescom.net  Must receive Peoples Telephone service.  Counselor documentation and two letters of reference from teachers are required---do not wait until the last minute to ask for them.  

MathEast Texas Section of the Society of Petroleum Engineers  Scholarship is good for a total of $7000 over 4 years.  Recipient must major in petroleum , mechanical, or chemical engineering at an accredited university.    Application available from Mrs. Foster.  Must be planning to major in engineering.

EarthOzarka's "Every Drop Counts" scholarship.   Essay required and applicant must plan to major in area of earth/environmental science.  Applications available at www.ozarkawater.com .  Scholarship documents are located in the Doing Our Part" section at the bottom.  

Little boy Smiles Made for Life $1000 Scholarship:  Available from Mrs. Foster for students who have been or who are a patient of Dr. Shae Ochoa's.  Paper required.  

 

Lamar Electric Cooperative: $1000 Scholarship.    Requirements:  1)  Student must live in the home of a parent or legal guardian who is a full-time resident in the Lamar Electric Service area and maintains an active Lamar Electric account and 2) Be a graduating senior attending high school within the counties served by Lamar Electric Cooperative.
